In
early December of 2008, five riders left Lima,Peru,
on BMW motorcycles, to begin an experience that none
had ever anticipated being a part of. Over a period
of five weeks, they toured through nine countries,
rode through the Andes Mountains on roads at 14,000
ft of altitude, crossed sandy deserts, crossed rivers
and streams, while visiting historic sites and the
locations of footbridges constructed through the generosity
of Rotarians around the world. This adventure was
designed as a fund-raising effort in support of the
Rotary Club of Newport News, Virginia's Rotary International
3H Grant application to embed foot-bridge-building
technology in Zambia, Africa.
